    Supercritical assisted atomization (SAA) is a novel technique for the preparation of drug loading microparticles. In this paper, the mechanism and apparatus of SAA are introduced, and the comparisons between SAA and other supercritical techniques applied to prepare microparticles are made. The progress and application of SAA in pharmaceutical field are reviewed.
