古代袁州,即今江西省宜春市。袁州作为州郡一级行政单位,始于隋代开皇十一年（591）于今宜春市设袁州,大业三年（607）更名为宜春郡。唐代武德四年（621）复名为袁州,天宝元年（742）复名为宜春郡,乾元元年（758）又复名为袁州。五代十国时期,袁州的行政设置没有变更,先后属于杨吴和南唐。隋唐五代十国时期袁州辖宜春、萍乡、新喻三县。两宋时期,袁州的辖县先后增加万载和分宜两县,后新喻被划出。元代设录事司,升萍乡为州。明代废除录事司,降萍乡州为县。清代袁州的行政设置没有发生变化。1912年裁府留县,＂袁州＂作为地级行政单位的名称退出了历史舞台。

The ancient Yuanzhou is the Yichun City of Jiangxi Province nowadays.As the name of state administration,it had been used in the 591 years during the Sui dynasty for the city now is Yichun,and then changed for ＂Yichun＂ state in the 607 years.In the Tang dynasty,Yichun city renamed for ＂Yuanzhou＂ in 621 years,changed to ＂Yichun＂ state again in 742 years,renamed for ＂Yuanzhou＂ again in 758 years.During the five dynasties and ten kingdoms Period,the Yuanzhou administration did not changed,at first belonged to Yangwu,and then to Nantang.During the Sui、Tang、five dynasties and ten kingdoms Period,Yuanzhou had three counties： Yichun、Pingxiang、Xinyu.In the Song dynasty,Yuanzhou had tow more counties： Waizai and Fenyi,and then the Xinyu county had been drawn out.In the Yuan dynasty,Yuanzhou set Lushi division,and promoted the Pingxiang county to state.In the Ming dynasty,Yuanzhou canceled the Lushi division and restored the Pingxiang state to the county.Yuanzhou administration did not changed in the Qing dynasty.After Xinhai revolution,Yuanzhou had been canceled in October 1912.As the name of state administration,＂Yuanzhou＂ withdrew from the stage of history.
