“行孝悌”是儒家思想的重要内容之一，“以孝治天下”也是我国古代一以贯之的政治实践，并且对地域社会产生了深刻的影响。通过梳理儒家“孝悌”观念及其政治实践的发展和演变，阐述明清时期官方对赣闽粤边区“五世同堂”家庭的旌奖，可以清楚地了解明清政府在赣闽粤边区“以孝治天下”的政治实践，及对客家族群文化构建的重要意义。

Encouraging Filial Piety was a nuclear aspect of Confucianism, and ruling by Filial Piety was always put into practice in ancient Chinese political society and had an enormous influence on regional community. This paper describes the origin and evolvement of Filial Piety ideas and their political practice, illustrates the official commendations and rewards to Wu - Shi - Tong - Tang Families, the special huge joint families, in Hakka region in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and further points out that the measure of ruling by Filial Piety have contributed to the construction of Hakka cuhure.
