After a description of the advances of artificial-neural-network (ANN) theory and an analysis of the nature and characteristics of ANN models, this paper discusses the current state and the development trend in the application of ANN models to modern CAD techniques, and states the artificial-neural-network algorithm of optimization, the application methods in CAD expert system, the methods of ANN model representation for free surface and the artificial-neural-network methods of feature recognition and extraction.
