In the past 13 years,42 children with congenital choledochal cyst were admitted.19 of them were treated by cysto-duodenostomy and 23 by Roux-en-Y cysto-jejunostomy.Among them,31 have been followed up for 1 to 13 years.18 children were given barium meal fluroscopy after operation.Immediate result:Cysto-duodenal anastomosis is usually followed by severe regurgitation of food, leading likely to infection of the bile duct.32% of the patients had persistent high fever lasting over 10 days, and some even reaching 40 days.However,Roux-en-Y cysto-jejunal limb anastomosis is not complicated with food regurgitation and gives less chance to post-operative infection of the bile duct. The patients' convalescence is smooth and satisfactory.Long-term result:The long-term results of cysto-duodenal anastomosis are satisfactory but Roux-en-Y cysto-jejunal limb anastomosis proves even better. With the passing of time, the cyst will decrease in size and food regurgitation become unlikely. As a result, the potentiality of infection of the bile duct is naturally reduced.
