Based on the problems in the preparation of Technologic Guidelines for Upgrading and Reconstruction of Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants in Taihu Lake Basin of Jiangsu Province, and many years work experience, combined with technological breakthroughs and scientific research achievements for Taihu Lake Basin, some issues are discussed, such as the need for pollutants control at the source, the difficulties and the necessary measures for achieving standard, the guiding idea and suggestions on upgrading and reconstruction of municipal wastewater treatment plants. These can provide a reference for upgrading and reconstruction of municipal wastewater treatment plants in other areas.
