Based a self-built corpus of some academic writings and short stodes, this paper explores the evaluative motivations of relational clauses in terms of cognitive and pragmatic theories. It argues that evaluation meanings in relational clauses are expressed through process verbs, the specific point of view of relational clauses, or the context in which relational clauses are used.
