The Concentrations of six trace metals (Zn,Cu,Fe,Al,Mn,and Sr) and the three major elements (C,N,and P) in Japanese anchovy (Engraulis japonicus) collected from Yellow Sea were measured.Except for Zn,whose concentrations varied in a 4~5-fold ranges;the concentrations of other five metals varied by approximately an order of magnitude. The concentrations of six metals showed the negative relationships with body length.Among three major elements,N and P showed the negative relationships similar to six trace metals, whereas C displayed a strong positive linear correlation. The cluster analysis suggested that variations of Zn and Cu concentrations were more similar with each other, presumably reflecting their same properties as essential elements in fish metabolism. However, other four metals were grouped into the other category in which their concentrations seem to be more associated with the terrestrial origin.
