This paper presents a new type of digital accelergraph (GDQJ-2) for recording strong ground motion of
earthquakes. Due to its unique structure and performance, this instrument has been widely applied to earthquake
observations and dam safety monitoring. In this article we describe the importance of dam safety monitoring and
progress of seismic instruments in this field. We also present the structural principle, technical parameters of the
instrument GDQJ-2 and its application to dam safety monitoring, which provide direet basis for design of dam safety
code.
