The development status of stainless steel industry was reviewed, with emphasis on improvement of decarbonization and desulfurization process in the AOD smelting of stainlees steels,as well as the development of increasing oxygen supply intensity and top blow technology,methods of improving lining service,and research progress of three-step smelting method for stainless steels. According to domestic resource status and industry characteristic, 200 series and 400 series stainless steels should be developed and applied.
