人之＂自在＂、＂自为＂、＂自持＂和＂自然＂构成了老子对生命存在形式的反思。其中,人之＂自在＂最重要的特征是＂与万物并作＂,是一种生命体的存在;人之＂自为＂因充满私欲而表现出＂甚＂、＂奢＂和＂泰;＂人之＂自持＂趋于＂道＂,其典型就是圣人;最后,人之＂自然＂合于＂道＂,其主要特征是＂朴＂。这四种生命存在形式构成了老子生命四重存在理论。

Laozi＇s reflection upon the forms of the existence of life consists of the following four aspects： in itself,for itself,self-restraint and naturalness.The most important characteristic of ＂in itself＂ is its co-existence with all the things in the universe,which is the existence of the system of life.＂For itself＂ is characteristic of extremeness,luxuriousness and indulgence due to its personal lust.＂Self-restraint＂ is similar to Tao,the most typical example of which is the sacred.＂Naturalness＂is in accordance with Tao,whose main characteristic is simplicity.By means of expounding the four forms of the existence of life,the paper is aimed to explore the theory on the four-dimension existence of life by Laozi.
