The characteristics of grain inhibitors in grain-oriented silicon steels are introduced with the theory of grain inhibiting, and the present research of the most common grain-inhibitors such as SnS and AlN is reviewed. The slab heating temperature and the energy consumption costs can be reduced by the selection of grain inhibitor with lower solid solution or precipitates temperature, which can realize low-temperature slab heating technology.
