An underrun protection device installed at the bottom rear-end of truck is presented.By means of real car underrun crash tests and LS-DYNA simulation,the energy absorbing and protection mechanisms of the device are analyzed,and the effects of structural characteristic parameters on underrun are discussed.The results of both real vehicle crash tests and LS-DYNA simulations show that the protection device,though simple,can effectively protect car occupants in underrun accidents.
