Fieldbus is categorized into three types of process automation, factory automation and motion control according to the application field. The application of fieldbus in process automation is stressed. FF, Profibus, Profinet and EPA are suitable for process automation. Their applications are not ideal. The related strongpoint and shortcoming is emphasized and analysized. If the current situation is not improved, the fieldbus control system will be replaced by the cloud control system (CCS) with combination of wireless sensor network, smart field instruments and cloud computing.
