利用蛋白银、孚尔根和银浸等染色方法对分类上有争议的E. charon的形态结构和无性分裂过程中皮层的发育分化及核器的演化进行了研究。E. charon表面有额腹、横、尾部棘毛10、5、4根,背触毛12列,大核倒“C”形,小核球形。E. charon在无性分裂过程中,皮层的纤毛器官多由相应原基发育而成(前仔虫的口围带、口侧膜由老口改组后承继下来)。核器演化的详细过程类似于其他游仆虫。随机抽取100个E. charon,对其长、宽、棘毛数、背触毛列进行统计,做出直方图进行分析,并与E. Patella进行了详细比较。作者认为E. charon应独立为一个种。

The morphology, morphogenesis and the development of the nuclear apparatus during the asexual division of E. charon were studied by using Protargol Staining technique, Feulgen nucleal reaction and Silver-impregnation method. E. charon is characterized by 10 fronto-ventral, 5 transverse, 4 caudal-marginal cirri and 12 rows of dorsal bristles. The macronucleus and micronucleus are respectively "C"-shaped and spherical. During the asexual division of E. charon, almost all of the cortex structures come from related primordia. The variety of morphology of E. charon was showed with statistical tables and charts and the possible reasons for it were discussed accordingly. We also compared E. charon with E. patella and decided that E. charon should be regarded as a separate species.
