The principal reasons for the consumption of graphite electrodesin steel production are reviewed.The relation between the consumption of graphite electrode and its quality is analyzed.It is found that the quality of raw materials plays an important role.It is pointed out that the following measures should be taken into account in order to improve the quality of graphite electrodes and to reduce their consumption in steel production.These include adding carbon fibers to improve the electrode strength,changing the shape of electrode joints to eliminate or decrease accident possibility,using the ultrasonic wave technique in production process to control the quality of graphite electrodes.
