The direct blue 71 (DB71) dye encapsulated mesostructured silica materials were synthesized by the microwave-assisted method with the use of nonionie surfactant Brij 56 in the acid solution. Their structures and properties were characterized by XRD, N2 adsorption analysis, electron microscopy, FT-IR, 13C NMR, UV-Vis, and TG-DSC. A red-shift of UV-Vis spectrum was observed in these microwave-synthesized DB71-encapsulated mesostructured silica samples, which may give an optical application.
