Vermibiofiher is designed according to that the earthworms have ecological functions of improving soil aeration and water infiltration and promoting decomposition and transformation of organic matters. It is a simultaneous wastewater and sludge treatment technology in which the organic matters and nutrients in wastewater and sludge are trapped by filtering materials and decomposed by earthworms and microorganisms. The working principle and characteristics of vermibiofilter and its research progress at home and abroad are introduced. After more than ten years studies, vermibiofilter has been applied for the treatment of wastewater from small towns, rural domestic sewage and sludge, which enriches the theo-ry and practicability of vermibiofilter.
