The cause of the carbon fiber case dome failure at low pressure and the failure modes were discussed, i. e. dome fracture in the vicinity of equator, polar hole fracture due to hoop stress and dome shear fracture on the shoulder edge of flange. The strength check formulae for the three modes and effective measures to prevent low pressure failure of the dome were abtained. For the aft dome with larger open polar,reinforcement measures must be taken. The methods determining the thickness and the range of reinforcement layer were given.
