A polyoxometalate (NH_4)_(42)[Mo_(132)O_(372)(CH_3 COO)_(30)(H_2O)_(72)] was synthesized by electrochemical method. The polyoxometalate film was gown on a glassy carbon by the electrodepositing method. Its electrochemical behaviors were studied by cyclic vohammetry and amperometry. This film electrode exhibited a high catalytic activity for iodate reduction. By determining the steady-state current of iodate with constant potential amperometry, the optimal detection potential was obtained, which was 0.2V. Amperometry revealed a good linear relationship between peak current and the concentration of iodate in the range of 1×10~(-6) and 2 × 10~(-4) mol/L and the detection limit of 5 × 10~(-7) mol/L. The diffusion coefficient of 4.45 × 10~(-7)cm~2/s for iodate was calculated. As a result,it is much promising for the polynxometalate film modified electrode to be used as an electrochemical sensor for detecting the reduction of iodate.
