之前的勘探实践表明,鄂尔多斯盆地具有"南油北气"的平面分布特征,北部先后发现了多个大中型气田,而南部针对天然气的勘探却一直止步不前.为此,对盆地南部上古生界天然气勘探潜力进行了分析.通过对南部烃源岩、砂体展布特征、储层特征、盖层等成藏条件进行分析,并与盆地北部的成藏条件进行了对比,认为该盆地南部亦具有良好的烃源条件和盖层条件,储层发育程度则是制约盆地南部天然气勘探的最主要因素;南部山西组、下石盒子组和上石盒子组基本发育3大三角洲砂体,彬县-富县三角洲前缘砂体延伸远,储层物性条件较好,与烃源岩相配合,为天然气在盆地南部成藏提供了有利条件.盆地南部多口探井测试见到工业气流,显示出鄂尔多斯盆地南部上古生界良好的天然气勘探潜力.

Previous exploration results show that areal distribution of oil and gas in the Ordos Basin is featured by that "oil occurs in south while gas in north". However, several medium- and large-sized gas fields have been discovered successively in the north. In contrast, gas exploration in the south is not fruitful till now. Therefore, a study was focused on the gas potential of the Upper Paleozoic in the southern Ordos Basin. An analysis of the hydrocarbon pooling conditions, including source rocks, sandbody distribution, reservoirs and seal conditions, and a comparison with that in the north reveals that the source rocks and seal conditions are good in the south, but the reservoirs are poorly developed, impeding the gas exploration in the south. Three large delta sandbodies are developed in the Shanxi, lower Shihezi and upper Shihezi formations, and the delta front sandbodies extend far in Binxian-Fuxian in the southern part of the basin, where the relatively good petrophysical properties of reservoirs in combination with good source rocks provide favorable conditions for gas accumulation. Several exploratory wells in the south have tested industrial gas flow, revealing a large gas potential of the Upper Paleozoic in the southern Ordos Basin.
