本文根据影响子公司角色转变的因素,将子公司的角色根据每种因素的强弱不同分为八种类型,即起步者、淘汰者、办事员、支持者、小诸侯、贡献者、直辖领袖和自由领袖.根据该子公司角色划分方法和演化路径分析方法,本文深入研究了一家跨国公司在华子公司-BEC公司的角色演化情况,研究证实了本文得出的角色划分方法和演化路径分析框架的适用性,也得到了跨国公司在华子公司的一个具体演化路径.

To realize the strategic goal of a MNC, the subsidiaries play critical roles. MNC keeps growing through the correct role play of its subsidiaries. The subsidiaries contribute a lot to the development of MNCs in the world economy. Because the strategy of a company is influenced by the circumstance and many other factors, the role of a MNC's subsidiary evolves with the change of its determinants. The basic research questions of this paper are: what determines the role evolution of MNCs' Chinese subsidiaries? and how do they evolve, i.e. what are the paths of MNCs' Chinese subsidiaries' role evolution? The paper begins with the analysis of the determinants of the role of MNC's subsidiaries, which fall into three aspects, they are circumstances, the control of parent company and subsidiary's competency. Following these analyses, we build a three-dimension framework of subsidiary's roles. By using this framework we study every possible path of a subsidiary's role evolvement. Finally we fully study the role evolution of a case of the subsidiary of MNC named BEC. The contribution of this study is: Firstly, we conclude all factors influence the role of a subsidiary into three categories: circumstance, the control of parent company and the capabilities of the subsidiary. Secondly, we build a threedimension framework which defines the role of a subsidiary into 8 kinds. With the change of each dimension we discuss the possible paths a subsidiary's role evolves. This is a new tool to study the role and the evolution of a subsidiary. Finally and also the core of this study, we use the tool we defined above to analysis a case of BEC-a Chinese subsidiary of a MNC-in detail. Our study not only brings a new case to the literature but also shows the usability of our new tool.
