This paper reviews clinical observations on 142 pediatric cases of infectious diseases and its relation with complement C_3 and immunologlobulin. During the infectious stage, C_3displayed a change opposite to that of leukocyies due to C_3's participating in the adjustment of immunity. C_3, hemoglobin and hepatic funotion were consistent with one another in their relationship. There was a general increase in Ig during the infection, mainly IgM and IgG. IgM had an early increase followed by a quick abation. Their increase occurred in the order of IgM, G, and A. A nortonl or raised value of C_3 indicates the restorage of the patient's resistence and a better prognosis. A chronic lower value of C_3 is a sign of weaker resistence or a tendency for the infection to become chronic and relapse. Therefore, the authors hold that the understanding of the regularity of the changes of C_3 is of clinical significance in the prevention of infections.
