The characteristic of high-speed capillary electrophoresis (HSCE) lies in the feasibility to improve the separation speed within several seconds or minutes by increasing the voltage and using short length and narrow inner diameter capillary. A method based on high-speed capillary electrophoresis with amperometric detection was developed for the determination of thiamazole (TMZ) and its tablets. The effects of some important factors, such as the detection potential, the length and the inner diameter of capillary, the separation voltage and the running buffer on separation were investigated to acquire the optimum conditions. Under the optimum conditions, TMZ was satisfactorily eluted in 60 second with the detection limit as low as 3.50×10-6 mol/L. The response was linear in the range of 2.00×10-3~2.80×10-5 mol/L. The relative standard deviations (n=8) of peak area and migration time were 2.7% and 1.2%, respectively. The method was applied to the determination of TMZ in the tablets with satisfactory results.
