Extremophilic microrganisms(EM) are special kinds of beings adapted to extreme environment. They have special genetic background and metabolism pathway, and can produce many active substances which have particular funcfiom. Studying the characteristics of EM has important significance for exploring the origin of life, breeding of microorganisms, and their development and utilization. They show great potential in many areas, such as medicine, food, chemical engineering and environment protecting. In the paper, the important extreme microorganism's type, the physiological characteristic, adaptable the mechanism and its application were introduced briefly.
