The preparation method of acetic ester by esterification of acetic acid and ethanol using Lewis acid as catalyst was introduced and a possible reaction mechanism was discussed. The effects of reaction temperature, different Lewis acid catalysts, and reaction time on the yield were investigated. Optimum reaction condition was gained as follows: catalyst was aluminium chloride, ethanol∶acetic acid∶aluminium chloride was 2∶1∶0.03(mol.), reaction temperature was 90 ℃, reaction time was 45 min. The yield of acetic ether was up to 94.3%.
