An adaptive control scheme based on the backstepping approach is proposed for linear time-invariant MIMO systems. The assumption on a priori knowledge of the gain matrix can be easily checked for certain plants. Under this scheme, the global stability of the closed-loop system is guaranteed and the tracking error tends to zero.
