In the title compound, C27H16O, Mr=356.42, orthorhombic, Pbcn,a=22. 549(6), b=10. 738(4), c=7.316(5) A, V=1771(2) A3, Z=4, Dcalc=1. 336g/cm3, F(000)=744, μ(MoKa)=0. 08mm-1and final R=0. 041, Rw=0. 045for 1009 reflections (I≥3.00σ(I)). The molecular structure of 7,9-diphenyl-8H-cyclopentacenaphthylen-8-one(acecyclone) is symmetrical and each atom except two benzene rings lies approximately in the same plane.
