The significance of controlling compressor radial clearance and the basis of selecting the clear-ance are presented. By investigating computational method of compressor radial clearance, a design method of radial clearance was developed. The compressor radial clearance of an aero-engine was designed using the method. The factors influencing tip clearance and the regular patterns of clearance variation were ana-lyzed in detail. Experiment results showed that safe and stable compressor radial clearance could be achieved by using this method.
