Arc excitation and photographic detection of the emission spectra are essential for emission spectroscopy on a grating spectrograph. It's procedure means a tedious use of photographing, processing, and comprises length measurements of optical densities. The grating spectrograph can be retrofitted into a high performance sequential spectrometer by the use of the state of the art electron and computer techniques, with a new mechanical design, incorporating an ICP generator. The new instrument is appropriate for uses in spectrometric quantitative analysis and study, and for spectrography teaching.
