Up to now, we still can not completely clarify the pathogenic mechanism of renal injury in se-vere acute pancreatitis. As for the possible mechanism of its involvement, many theories have been intro-duced, such as hemodynamics of kidney dysfunction, releasing of inflammation transmitters and cytokines, apoptotic cell death of renal tubules and enteric bacteria aversion. This review provides an overview of patho-genic mechanism and protection of renal injury in severe acute pancreatitis.
