The principles, analysis method of identifying the species and genus of animals by using the physical and chemical examination and its application situations in the practice were introduced. The advantages and disadvantages of identifying the species and genus of animals by using physical and chemical examination were appraised. It was proposed that a lot of experimental works should be done in the species and genus identification of animals by using physical and chemical examination. And the convenience of the identification method, low identification cost, multi-knowledge amalgamation and union with computer technology were the development direction of animal species identification.
