How to ensure people＇ s own construction safety and environment safety during excavation process and, at the same time, how to estimate foundation deformation and surface settlement during design phase are the problems that need to be solved urgently in practical engineering. This article provides a theoretical basis for the calculation of the surface subsidence in the actual projects by analyzing the basic theories that cause pit soil deformation systematically and researching methods of calculating surface subsidence caused by excavation of foundation pit.
