This paper summarized the application of distant hybridization in breeding history of modern rose and in rose breeding of nowadays, introduced the overcoming methods of distant cross-incompatibility and distant hybrid sterility. Then the author pointed that application of polyploidy technology in distant hybridization would be a very useful method in the future. Finally, the prospect application of distant hybridization in rose breeding was also discussed.
