White light-emitting diodes(WLED) are regarded as the fourth generation solid-state light, which have huge market. The research progress in blue-emitting phosphors for WLEDs in recent years are reviewed. The effects of matrix materials, luminescent center, synthetic method and doping on the fluorescence properties of blue materials for WLED are introduced. The application and prospect of the blue-emitting phosphors are also discussed.
