The definition of stress equilibrium factor for the filament-wound case is discussed. A method determining the stress equilibrium factor is given when the closure and the cylinder strength are equal. The relationship of the stress equilibrium factor k_s and the cylinder wound angle α Is obtained. The results show that the stress equilibrium factor will be decreased when the cylinder wound angle is decreased. The mass of the cylinder is increased as long as stress equilibrium factor k_s<1. Therefore, the appropriate increase of the cylinder wound angle will strengthen the closure and reduce the mass increment of the cylinder.
