Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a very useful polymer, which has low toxicity, good bioeompatibility and high hydrophilieity and good abilities of film-forming, adhering and high emulsification. It has been widely used in many biomedical areas. In this review, we mainly focused on introducing the applications of PVA in scaf-fold material, bone material, drug delivery system(DDS), film, surgery and so on. With further research and devel-opment, PVA will be given a wider range of pharmaceutical and medical applications.
