In this paper, an overview of the electrical control system in engineering ship's cranes is given. The existing system configurations and potential issues in the practice are analyze. Based on the analysis, a new method that optimizes the system performance by using an AC variable frequency electrical control system is presented. In addition, some factors to consider for system configuration and equipment selections are discussed. With these improvements and optimizations, the operability and robustness of the system are significantly improved.
