This is a summary about the theory of metabolic engineering, the designing route of metabolic alteration and the application of metabolic engineering . The theory of metabolic engineering is including the metabolic network, metabolic analyzing, key point analyzing ,and the theory about central metabolite etc. From some examples, author analyzed the designing route of metabolic engineering. Inverse metabolic engineering is also explained briefly, which is a new research direction about metabolic engineering.
