Tremendous amount of high-concentrated organic wastewater from Dioscorea zingiberensis C. H. Wright (DZW)-processing industry is drained into Danjiangkou Reservoir, which has severely threatened the water safety of the source of the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Transfer Project. The characteristics of the quality of the wastewater from DZW-proeessing industry are analyzed. Research development on treatment of this kind of wastewater is summarized, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. The treatment technology of the wastewater from DZW-processing industry in the future should be focused on how to realize efficient removal of nitrogen as well as organic pollutants. A hybrid biological process mainly consisting of Modified Two-Phase Anaerobic Digestion and BAF is recommended to treat the wastewater from DZW-processing industry.
