A digital static calibration technique for 400 MSPS 16-bit high-resolution current steering D/A converter was described. In this technique, address generator, clock controlled comparator, SAR register and calibration DAC was used to form a successive approximation calibration loop, with which calibration of current source array units could be automatically accomplished one by one, thus greatly improving matchability of current source. The 16-bit current steering D/A converter using this calibration technology had a DNL greater than ±0.5 LSB, achieving a true 16-bit relative static resolution.
