莎剧<李尔王>将主人公主观世界的幻灭作为呈现其悲剧命运的明证.李尔在他的王权和生命走向尽头时,失去了曾经构筑他个人世界的一切,先是疯疯癫癫,继而陷入完全的癫狂之中.在这样一个悲惨混乱的"李尔世界"里,他认识到自己的错误,对人生悲苦有了深刻的体验,最终恢复了人的高尚德性.论文剖析了李尔王如何陷入人类困境的过程--老年的专断狂暴,自我的迷失,以及主观想象世界的崩溃,指出在他的疯狂中孕育着从"非人性"到"人性化"的理性的飞跃.

King Lear presents an exceptionally clear and powerful example of the collapse of the subjective world as a central facet of the tragic hero's experience in Shakespeare.Lear,at the finish of his reign and time,is short of everything that has previously constructed the foundation of his world.When the former world of the tragic hero is destroyed,he plunges into a state of confusion and finally into madness.Despite the powerful degree and duration of his agony,Lear changes.grows and gains wisdom and finally humanity.This article looks into Lear's descent into human plight-wrath in old age,loss of identity and plunge into madness and argues that Lear's madness is not a breakdown in his personality,but a breakthrough into the new humanity.
