Adenosine is an endogenous nucleoside that mediates several important functions by the activation of four known cell surface (A1, A2A,A2B and A3) receptors. Adenosine therapy for the hypoxia, postoperative and other causes of pulmonary arterial hypertension has a significant effect,but its mechanisms are still controversial. This review describes the recent advances of adenosine in the study of mechanism and treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension.
