Evolutionary engineering is a novel whole-genome wide engineering strategy. Inspired by natural evolution, the approach of evolutionary improvement. Recently, the application of the evolutionary engineering had make a significant progress in bioengineering. The concept and the characteristic of this technology were introduced and the principle and methods of the evolntion were presented. Process, then, the progress of its application in the strain improvement was summarized. Finally, the perspective was given for the trend and the potentiality of evolutionary engineering.
