The radio propagation in the uneven atmosphere will produce refraction, leading to propagation direction and velocity change. The method of equivalent earth radius is widely applied to solve the problem of radio propagation in the atmosphere. Two definitions of the equivalent earth radius were introduced, the difference and relationship between the two definitions were discussed and their applications limitations were also described, the parameters calculation and relationship of radio propagation in real earth and equivalent earth were analyzed.
