In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Self-taught examinations, the article reviews the emergence and the evolution of social assistance learning and draws conclusions as follows: the social assistance learning develops around establishing a scientific service system of assistance learning with the characteristics of the Self-taught examinations from beginning to end, the change of social needs is always the guide and driving force of the social assistance learning, and the most active element of assistance learning in the Self-taught examinations is non-governmental sectors to run schools and they are the reliable partner of further development.
