Signal transduction was observed while activation of s pecific receptors leads to highly specific biologic responses, these receptors s eem to use ubiquitous signaling intermediates. One solution to this dilemma is t hat perhaps the specific signaling molecules are yet to be discovered. Recent re views have discussed the diverse roles of this ubiquitous signaling intermediate . The thesis will focus on recently discovered mechanisms that they are likely t o underlie the specificity of signaling through Ca2+/calcineurin and the N F-AT transcription complex and discuss the implication for the development of d rugs to modulate responses through this pathway.
