Bai Chuyi (772-846) had a deep affection for the music from the Western Regions, both north and south of the Tianshan Mountains. With a special love to the Western Regions, he had expressed his unique un-derstanding of the music in the lines of his poems with vivid images. This paper discusses about his affection for the music by a case study of his poem The Song of a Lute, in which he had given a vivid description of the lute-pla-ying girl's skills. And the author thinks that such a description present the readers the nature of the music from the Western Regions, and his own unusual taste for music as well.
