Black liquor gasification is a promising alternative to the conventional energy and chemicals recovery. Pyrolysis is the first step of gasification, so the research on pyrolysis mechanism is beneficial to the design of black liquor gasifier. In this paper, research progress of black liquor pyrolysis kinetic was introduced based on the literature data. Then the contributions of different organic constituents to the form- ing of gas, tar and char during black liquor pyrolysis were compared. As the important process dements, the thennochemical behaviors of so- dium and sulfur were also discussed.
