The base for the building water supply and drainage system design is the maximum service limit concept, which originates from the probability theory and steady flow theory. The current based on steady flow method can not make further progress in the fields of vertical drainage pipe flow stage, instant pressure transportation theory, gas moving pattern, and fluid state in the siphon at the initial rainwater drainage stage, while the detailed analysis on the unsteady flow state inside the drainage system has become the research tendency in this field. This paper introduced the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods to study the gas and fluid moving patterns in the building water supply and drainage system and summarized the abroad application of CFD in the drainage system.
